Does Gum Disease lead to Cancer?

Gum disease in particular has been frequently linked to a number of common health issues like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and cancer. So we should take care of our teeth. Can gum disease cause cancer? Yes it does.

 

Connection between Gum Diseases – Cancer:

Recent research has concluded that there is some type of connection between gum disease and cancer. Most of researchers showed links to cancer in individuals with a history of gum disease, this time linking to lung and colorectal cancers. To avoid these gum diseases people have to stop smoking, should eat healthy, regular exercising, and avoiding alcohol are highly recommended for lowering your risk of cancer.

Prevention:

Gum disease can be prevented by following good oral care practices. It includes

·  Brushing your teeth twice a day

  • Floss your teeth daily
  • Rinse with an ADA approved mouthwash daily
  • Chew sugar free gum between meals
  • Contact your dentist at least twice a year
